Who We Are

Family Connection meets monthly to educate ourselves about the illnesses our children have, steps we can take to make their lives better, and ways to improve mental health care in our community.

Although Family Connection is not a support group in the traditional sense, it does give parents of children with mental health issues an opportunity to discuss challenges and successes. We share our ideas and the resources we’ve found whenever we are together. We also learn from each other about new ways to help our children.

We offer the “family voice” as a way to advocate for changes in the mental health system that will benefit families. We may speak to legislatures or to providers, sharing our stories and explaining the changes we feel need to be made. We also advocate for our children, working with the schools and others to ensure children with mental health issues are accepted and receive the best possible services.
